आजकल खांसी हो जाय तो भी कम से कम सौ रुपये का एक नोट इलाज पर खर्च हो जाता है. लेकिन मजे की बात है कि सिर्फ पाच रुपये एवं दस मिनिट खर्च करके आप अपने दफ्तर, द्कान, या पडोस के सैकडों लोगों को बीमारी से बचा सकते हैं.

चाय, गन्ने का रस, चाट, भेलपुरी, पानी पूरी (गोल गप्पे) आदि जब तक हैं, तब तक तमाम प्रकार के किटाणू इनके बनाने/बांटने वालों के द्वारा फैलते रहेंगे. कोई उनको रोक नहीं सकता. लेकिन आप चाहें तो बहुत आसानी से इन में से 80% से 90% तक को रोक सकते हैं. सिर्फ पांच रुपये का पोटेशियम परमेगनेट एवं आपके चायवाले/चाटवाले के साथ दस मिनिट की बातचीत द्वारा आप यह कार्य कर सकते हैं.
हम सब जानते हैं कि हर साल किटाणुओं द्वारा फैलने वाली बीमारियों पर अरबों रुपये (सरकारी एवं व्यक्तिगत मिलाकर) खर्च होते हैं. लेकिन यदि किटाणुओं का फैलाव रोकना शुरू कर दें तो बहुत फरक पड सकता है. आज भारत में सबसे अधिक किटाणू पानी के द्वार फैलते हैं. जब आपका चायवाला, कचौडी वाला, पानी पूरी वाला मल त्याग कर आता है तबसे अमीबिक संक्रमण के किटाणू उसके हाथ से ग्राहकों को मिलने लगता है. जब आप गन्ने का रस, होटल का पानी, या सडक किनारे बिकने वाला पानी पीते हैं तो उन बर्तनों द्वारा भी किटाणू आपके शरीर में प्रवेश करते हैं. ये लोग बीचबीच में अपना बदन खुजाते हैं तो किटाणुओं का एक कॉकटेल इनकी ऊंगलियों मे आ जाताहै. लेकिन ये लोग यदि बर्तन पोटेशियम परमेगनेट जैसे सस्ती चीज से धोने की आदत डाल लें तो प्रति माह सैकडों लोग किटाणुओं से बच सकते हैं.
पांच साल पहले सडक किनारे से गन्ने का रस पीने के बाद गला/छाती के संक्रमण के लिये 500 रुपये एवं दो हफ्ते खर्च करने के बार मेरा पहला काम था उसको पोटेशियम परमेगनेट की एक पुडिया पकडवा देना. उससे सिर्फ इतना अनुरोध किया कि जूठे बर्तन वह पहले इस घोल से भरी एक बाल्टी में डाल दिया करे एवं बाद में सादे पानी में डुबाकर उपयोग में लाये. (ऐसा करते समय पात्र के अलावा उसका हाथ अपने आप साफ हो जाता). उसके बाद कई बार वहां से रस पिया लेकिन कभी तकलीफ न हुई. पांच रुपये एवं दस मिनिट में क्या कुछ कर सका.
इस तरह के सैकडों तरीके हैं जो कम से कम खर्चे या मुफ्त में लोगों को जीवनदान कर सकते हैं. कल आप बेशक दुनियां बदल सकते हैं !! में मैं ने मुफ्त का एक तरीका बताया था. जरूरत है कुछ ऐसे चिट्ठाकारों की जो चिट्ठाकरी द्वारा एवं अपने व्यक्तिगत प्रयत्नों द्वारा इस तरह दुनियां बदलने निकल पडें. आईये इस नये साल कुछ करें!!

Sir, you are doing a wonderful job by promoting cause based activism among bloggers and I appreciate your efforts.
However chemicals are always dangerous unless handled properly.
Even the normally safe Potassium Permanganate(PP) can be fatal, if not handled correctly.
Occasional usage in one thing but regular usage must be advised with lot of caution especially at tea stalls where unfortunately children are still commonly found working.
I am a bit sad to write this because I dont know of any other good alternative to PP – the best solution would be some microbial (natural) solution, if someone knows so – wherein good bacteria eat up bad bacteria kind of thing.. but unfortunately I am not aware of any cheap freely available ones at the current moment.
Regarding PP safety I have referred to various MSDS available, for example here http://tinyurl.com/35dcvt specifically Pt3, Pt 4 and ecological info in pt 12
My main concern is if you refer to the EPA docs,
available here http://tinyurl.com/39lqr7 (specifically Pt 5.4.3)they suggest that PP requires high concenterations (20mg/L) and long duration of contact(24hrs – if this info is correct then it makes the whole idea impractical) to be effective against common bacteria and it is not so good against viruses, but at such high concenterations if its usage is promoted, then I think people using it need to wear gloves (which will never happen) and what effect will it have on the already damaged aquatic systems wherein our cities sewer’s flow?
Sir I am quite keen to know if PP is really a good solution because indeed your usage idea is quite novel and can be spread around with relative ease but would you be able to share other research info which allays my doubts.
I really hope that my doubts turn out to be useless and that you are correct…
I wish some efforts could be made to inculcate more hygiene sense as that would go much further than usage of any chemical – simple hand washing with soap and no itching discipline by vendor may be more effective… this is possible because whatever experience I have with those very vendors suggests that they have sufered from infections themselves, so if they are told its good for them, they will follow, rather than telling them that its good for your customers, which they may not bother about… I have had varying degree of success in this – (incomplete but) better results being in places where I used to eat regularly … but nonetheless if PP really works it could indeed be a great idea..

As an oxidant, potassium permanganate can act as a disinfectant. For example, dilute solutions are used as a treatment for canker sores (ulcers), disinfectant for the hands and treatment for mild pompholyx, dermatitis, and fungal infections of the hands or feet. Thanks Durga for the note. Yes, PP can be dangerous, as can any chemical be. But I assume that the person who gets into a campaign will teach the protocol to handle it — which is relatively simple.

As you know sir, wikipedia has an issue with reliability. This limitation is usually covered up by referring to citations from different reports and unfortunately the sentence referred by you has been marked as “Citation Needed”.
Considering the Banerjea (1950) report, the above wikipedia statement may or may not be correct.
I know very little about these things and infact your excellent article excited me a lot because it would have been so good but I could not reach any conclusion, so instead seeked your help again..
Having said this, I have to say that I still have doubts about the efficacy and ecological safety of PP, although I do agree with you, that the people campaigning can teach the handling protocol relatively easily.
Wonder if PP is really a good solution.. I wish it is but sir I would need more confirmation.. sorry but thats just me..
